Naltrexone™
This is a one-year prevention package using the drug Naltrexone™ which will block any effects of opiates if they are taken, rendering the use of Heroin ineffective and thus preventing re-addiction. Visits will take place during the first two weeks of treatment and monthly thereafter to monitor compliance. On each occasion support guidance and encouragement will be given to develop total independence of addictive substances. A drug screen will be carried out at each visit.
Prior to commencing this therapy the patient will be re-assessed by our medical personnel. Assuming that toxicology tests have proved negative for opiates and the results of liver function tests are within normal limits, Naltrexone™ will be prescribed for up to one year. Motivational support will form a major part of this relapse prevention programme.
